Ben Nevis Climbing Conditions

Thursday pm: refreezing

Ben Nevis ice Climbing

The Curtain: good ice (and yet more snow)

Stormy conditions encourage patience. Lighter northerly winds have reduced the rate of windslab forming on W through N to E facing slopes today.

The high crags have been buried and hard to get to. Ben Nevis on Monday saw few parties venturing far above the Douglas Boulder.

Huge depths of snow in the back corries of Nevis Range are still mobile. Abseiling central buttress accessed a short Typhoon under soft neve.

More wind and debris down to 500m on Buchaille Etive Mor encouraged more abseiling on Wednesday but clearer skies and lighter winds are seeing higher routes come into condition now…

…as weekend winds look set to test us again. Get in touch if you’re wondering if it’s worth the drive north.
